What's New?

The VAS Developer API is updated and enhanced on a regular basis to add new endpoints and address any bugs. Please reach out to us at integrations@vas.com with any questions!

June 2025

  • The milking-sessions Endpoint was updated to clarify date and time details based on whether the dairy has a VAS ParlorBoss integration and PULSE milking shifts are configured. See the Important note for additional details.

February 2025

January 2025

We added new POST endpoints for expanded animal health and heat monitoring support:

As noted in each new endpoint, VAS supports sending specific data points to VAS systems and making them available in PULSE and DairyComp 305 for reports and worklists.

August 2024

We made multiple improvements and enhancements to the VAS Developer API!

IMPORTANT: alternativeIdentifiers Removal: In an effort to standardize our data, improve efficiencies, and speed up response times, alternativeIdentifiers data was removed from all endpoints except the three animals endpoints:

Additionally, we removed some data points from the three animals endpoints to better align with ICARClosed International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) is a global organization focused on the standardization of animal identification, recording, genetic evaluation, and data management. standards.

  • Animal Identification Expansion: Our partners offer a wide variety of hardware components, so we expanded our methods of identifying animals and added filters to make finding animals with specific transponders or other physical tags even easier. The new alternative identifiers we added are as follows: GenericResponder, GenericTransponder, NedapResponder1, NedapResponder2, and SCRResponder.  Use the new alternativeIdentifiers query parameter to limit your results to specific alternativeIdentifiers.
  • Embryo Data Enhancements and ICAR Alignment: We added more details for embryos to the inseminations endpoint and three repro-status-observations endpoints, as well as a new filter to make finding transfers easier. You can now find additional embryo transfer details under the BRED event data, and the new isEmbryoTransfer=true or false query parameters can be used to filter your events in the inseminations Endpoint and three repro-status-observations endpoints:
  • Identify Updated Animals for Specific Date Ranges: We added support for the meta-modified-from and meta-modified-to query parameters to the following animals endpoints to limit responses to animals with changes during the specified date ranges:

This enhancement reduces API traffic, speeds up responses for large herds, and reduces associated costs for AWS usage.

The latest version of the VAS Developer API, v2.0, is now live and open for business! This version includes many enhancements over our previous API, including the following:

  • Expanded endpoint offering to ensure our partners can access the data they need. We now expose ~80% of on-farm data inputs in our API!
  • Enhanced data security by applying best practices, such as OAuth access tokens that expire hourly. See Authentication to learn more.
  • Standardized endpoints and data to align with ICAR guidelines to make VAS data more universal and globally relevant. See ICAR Standards to learn more.

If you are ready to transition to v2.0, please reach out to us at integrations@vas.com.
